The incident happened on Tuesday, Aug. 15 just before noon, when firefighters from the Pound Ridge Volunteer Fire Department responded to a dumpster fire that had ignited close to a barn in the town, department members said on Saturday, Aug. 19.
Arriving firefighters soon saw that a dumpster filled with hay and other yard-related material had caught on fire and that the homeowner was attempting to douse the flames using a garden hose.
Crews then used numerous booster lines to soak the dumpster before conducting an overhaul to make sure any smoldering debris was taken out.
South Salem firefighters also helped with the response to the blaze, which likely saved the barn structure, Pound Ridge firefighters said.
